Our staff and consultants are Master’s, D.Min., Th.D./Ph.D. level professionals from a variety of clinical trainings and backgrounds who offer counseling, coaching, and consultation to individuals, couples, families, and groups.  All therapists are required to adhere to a Code of Conduct and Ethics in accordance with their specific credentials.

The Reverend Dr. April C. Wells is the founder & executive director of Wells of Wholeness, Inc.  She is also an ordained Baptist preacher/minister, licensed professional counselor, licensed marriage and family therapist, and pastoral counselor/psychotherapist uilizing a client-centered integrative narrative approach to therapy.  A faith leader with more than 20 years of experience working with corporate, government, educational, civic, and faith-based organizations, Dr. Wells is a sought-after preacher, teacher, revivalist, counselor, conference speaker, and workshop facilitator on a variety of topics associated with emotional and spiritual healing and wholeness.

Dr. Wells earned the Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) degree in pastoral counseling from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.  Her doctoral research and methodology, which was comprised of Womanist Theology, African-Centered Psychology, and Relational-Cultural Theory, culminated in the completion of her doctoral dissertation entitled “Pastoral Counseling as a Response to Intimate Violence and Institutional Abuse Against African American Clergywomen in Black Church Leadership:  A Womanist Pastoral Theological Model.”  She earned the Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in the psychology of religion and pastoral care from Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia; and the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in marketing from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Wells is a member of the American Psychological Association, Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia; the American Association of Pastoral Counselors; the Society for Pastoral Theology; and the American Academy of Religion.  Because she understands the challenges that block or hinder healing & wholeness in individuals and communities, she is committed to serving God by serving God’s people through faith-integrated care, counseling, and education that consider the "whole-person" in the process of emotional and spiritual healing and wholeness. An animal-enthusiast, she considers herself to be the proud mother of 2 adorable cats, Gabriel (14 yrs.) and Moses (d. October 20, 2007).

As a certified Diplomate with AAPC, Marriage and Family Therapist Approved Supervisor, Licensed Marriage and Family therapist (in VA), and Licensed Professional Counselor, Dr. Nancy Long is the clinical director for Wells of Wholeness, Inc.  She is also an elder in full-connection in the United Methodist Church and presently serves as staff support chaplain at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia.  Dr. Long earned the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree from Virginia Union University School of Theology; Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky; Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Clinical/School Psychology from Virginia Union University School of Theology; and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology/Criminal Justice from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee.  Previously, she worked as a pastoral counselor and substance abuse counselor for the Chesterfield County Mental Health Clinic and taught as adjunct faculty at the Virginia Union University School of Theology.  Prior to joining the staff of Wells of Wholeness, Inc., Dr. Long served as director for the Ben Hill UMC counseling center in Atlanta, Georgia.  Of her many accomplishments, she would like to be known as one who loves the Lord and has committed herself to her call.  "The best is yet to come, God is not through with me yet."



The Rev. Leroy Wright, Th.D.

Pastoral Counseling & Career/Vocational Counseling Staff



Rev. Leroy Wright is an ordained Baptist minister with over twenty years of ministerial experience. Dr. Wright earned the Doctor of Theology (Th.D) degree in Pastoral Counseling from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His dissertation title was “Minding:  Transformative Authority in African American Pastoral Counseling; A Transition from Silence to Active Engagement to Therapeutic Silence.” He believes that the Oral Tradition can inform the use of silence in counseling African American clients. Dr. Wright earned the Master of Divinity (M.Div) degree in theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center and the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Leroy Wright is a member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. Prior to joining the staff of Wells of Wholeness, Inc., Dr. Wright served as a pastoral counselor for the Georgia Association for Pastoral Care and the Ben Hill UMC Counseling Center. With more than a decade of service to Trinity Community Ministries as business manager, he has an extensive sales, management, government, law enforcement, finance, and accounting background.  Additionally, Dr. Wright spent many years in corporate America and over twenty years as Chief Operating Officer of his own company, Flair Vending Corporation.  One of Rev. Wright’s favorite scriptures is “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” --Psalm 27:13



The Rev. Mel Turner, M.Div.

Counseling staff specializing in Marriage & Family Issues


Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1995, Rev. Mel Turner's call within ministry is counseling with expertise in marital & family therapy.  In his work with couples, he seeks to help husbands and wives establish healthy emotional boundaries.  His hope is that the establishment of such boundaries will give each spouse the freedom to take responsibility for any unresolved emotional issues he or she may bring to the marriage.  Once these issues are identified and resolved, the couple can move forward and establish a truly complementary, interdependent relationship.  Rev. Turner is currently a doctoral student at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.  His dissertation title is "Woundedness:  The Impact of Unresolved Emotional Issues on the Marriage Dyad."  Mel has been married to his beautiful wife René for 26 years.  They have two daughters, Kristen, 20 and Courtney, 14.  They make their home in Stockbridge, Georgia.



Amy Ngurukie, M.A.

Counseling Intern


Amy Ngurukie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia.  Through her writings for A Word from the Well, she assists persons in the process of tapping into deeper areas of their lives by using a more engaging and creative way of communicating internal emotions and feelings.  As a counseling intern for Wells of Wholeness, Inc., she plans to pursue her doctoral studies in clinical psychology, where she will integrate her passion for writing into her counseling technique. 
Ms. Ngurukie has trained and volunteered with the Dekalb Rape Crisis Center, Atlanta Victim Assistant Program and the Women Resource Center for Domestic Violence.  She is a strong believer in the power of words and has used her love for spoken word and creative writing to bring inspiration, hope and encouragement to people from all walks of life.



June Dobbs Butts, Ed.D.

Dr. June Dobbs Butts, CP IV, is an educational consultant for Wells of Wholeness, Inc. and a valued member of our advisory board.  She received her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Family Life Education from Teachers College at Columbia University in New York; Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Vocational Guidance from Teachers College at Columbia University; and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Social Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.  As a certified preventionist (level IV) and trained clinician in sexual health and addiction recovery, Dr. Butts brings over 30 years of experience in counseling and education.  She is the mother of 3 and grandmother of 1.






Jay W. Edwards, Ph.D. 

Business and Organizational Management Consultant


Dr. Jay Edwards is a Georgia native, earned his doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) in Organization and Management from Capella University, Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Troy State University, Bachelor of Science  (B.S.) in Business Management from National-Louis University, and Associate of Science in Information Systems from Atlanta Technical Institute.  As a member of the board of directors for Wells of Wholeness, Inc., he also serves as an educational and business consultant for our community involvement initiatives.  Dr. Edwards is interested in the role of Organization, Management, and Leadership in facilitating/inhibiting knowledge creation and learning processes in organizations.  His theoretical emphasis draws on cognitive theory foundations including schemas and interpretive traditions such as social constructionalism, and narrative theory. He is married and has 2 children.



Diane M. Dettering

Diane Dettering is a native of London, England and president of
Silky Smooth Urban Oasis, a spa treatment program providing body and facial therapy.  Diane was trained in Europe receiving her teaching degree from Middlesex University in London and BETC National Diploma in Beauty Therapy.  As a licensed esthetician and instructor in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area, Diane understands that busy lifestyles make it difficult to look and feel your best.  So anytime your mind, body, and spirit demand to be pampered, nurtured, recharged, rejuvenated, and refreshed, Diane provides Wells of Wholeness, Inc. clients with the "royal treatment"  through massage therapy, and body and facial therapy.
